Avelo Essentials
Targeted at already certified divers, the Avelo Essentials course builds on your foundational skills. You already know how to dive with a traditional BCD, cylinder and weight system. Now learn how much more intuitive diving can be diving on Avelo, and attain the certification to use an Avelo System on your travels.
The Avelo System is:
- Significantly lighter and less bulky Transitioning to an Avelo system removes the use of a BC and (for most people) all weight. The cylinders are a composite material, weighing less than a traditional cylinder. The entire system weighs about 45 lbs (compared to 65-70 lbs for a standard system).
- Buoyancy control is effortless With less weight to compensate, the diver is able to maintain buoyancy more easily.
- Eliminates rapid buoyancy changes
- It allows for more bottom time For many divers, controlling buoyancy takes air. Improving buoyancy improves enjoyment and increases bottom time.

In this course, you will learn everything you gain the knowledge and skills to dive the Avelo System. Your course consists of two components, online theory training and in-water training. You will complete the in-water training with Jim as your Avelo certified instructor following completion of the online theory training.
The course consists of
- Online instruction
- Classroom session, which includes student review of material and hands-on familiarization with equipment
- Pool work
- Open water - 2 dives
Prerequisites
- Student must be Open Water certified
- Student must be 13 years or older
What you need to provide
As with our Open Water courses, we require that students have their own mask, fins, booties and snorkel.
